To Rest or Not to Rest Between Sets

A topic that is often debated, is whether or not to rest between exercises or sets. There is actually a time and place for each to be beneficial. The first thing you have to determine is what your goals are for your exercise routine that day. If strength gains are your focus, then you want to allow proper recovery time for your muscles between each set (approximately 60-120 seconds) in order to elicit the most force throughout your exercise. If endurance or fat burning is your goal, then minimal to no rest is ideal. This will keep the heart rate up and allow you to stay in your optimum fat burning zone throughout your exercise routine.
